Warren County Democrats Endorse Phil Murphy for Governor

Carries Sixth Consecutive County with Two-Thirds of Committee Vote

Washington Township— Phil Murphy yesterday afternoon prevailed at the gubernatorial endorsement convention of the Warren County Democratic Committee and will carry the party’s ballot line in the June 6 Primary Election. Murphy has now won all six county endorsements to date.

“Warren County needs a partner who will not only ensure the continued growth of our party, but also ensure that our people are not forgotten in the State House — and Phil Murphy will be that partner,” said Palmieri. “Our party has won back seats at the local level thanks to Phil’s engagement and commitment to supporting grassroots Democrats. Now, we stand ready to help Phil not only win the State House, but to turn our state around.”

Murphy won the endorsement with 66 percent of the vote. The endorsement convention was the first held by the Warren County Democrats in more than 15 years, according to Chairman Tom Palmieri, and was created to ensure the voices of grassroots committee members were heard in the nomination of a candidate for governor.

Warren County is home to roughly 17,500 registered Democrats, a nearly 20 percent increase over four years ago. During that period, the number of seated county committee members has increased from 22 to 91.

“Chairman Palmieri and the Warren County Democrats have done tremendous work to build the party, and I am honored to have their support,” said Murphy. “I am running for governor because we need leadership that will work hard for every resident in every corner of the state, whether they live in ‘blue’ counties or ‘red’ counties. I commit to being the governor for all 9 million of us.”

In addition to Warren County, Murphy has also won the endorsements in Bergen, Essex, Middlesex, Monmouth, and Union counties; he also has been endorsed by the Hamilton and Lawrence Democrats in Mercer County.
