Newark — Phil Murphy last night won endorsements from Democrats in both Morris and Burlington counties — his eleventh and twelfth — officially giving him a majority of endorsements from grassroots county committee members heading toward the June 6 Primary Election.
In Morris County, Murphy was the choice of 82 percent of the locally elected Democratic committee members. In Burlington, he was endorsed with 74 percent.
“The growth of the Morris County Democratic party would not have been possible without the support of Phil Murphy, who has been a partner with us every step of the way to victory,” said Chairman Chip Robinson. “We have won local races because of Phil’s support, and we have been able to build a stronger party because he has been our partner. Now, with all the challenges New Jersey faces, and the need for active, engaged leadership, we’re proud to help him become our next governor.”
“With Phil Murphy, Burlington County’s Democrats know they have a candidate who will be a champion for our working families and a check against Donald Trump’s dangerous agenda,” said Chairman Joe Andl. “Phil has put together the strongest platform for making our economy not only work again, but make it fair again. And he has proven that no part of our state will be overlooked, and that he will be the governor for all nine million residents.”
Burlington County has more than 109,000 registered Democrats, with another 85,000 in Morris.
“I am honored by the tens of thousands of New Jerseyans who are joining this campaign for new leadership that works for all residents, and not the special interests,” said Murphy. “I have heard the calls for new economic thinking, for standing up for women’s rights, and for pushing back against Donald Trump’s attempts to divide us. They are the foundation of this campaign for progressive change that lifts working families and focuses on the creating opportunities for the next generation of New Jerseyans.”
