Newark — Following President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Change Accord, Phil Murphy today reiterated his commitment to making New Jersey a leader in fighting climate change by reentering the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), pursuing a 100 percent clean energy economy, and joining other like-minded governors in the newly formed U.S. Climate Alliance of states.
“New Jersey’s future is at risk because of climate change, and President Trump’s nonsensical call to withdraw from the Paris Accord puts us in danger unless we take action for ourselves and lead,” said Murphy. “Governors will never have mattered more, and as governor I will see that we work in partnership with our fellow states for what’s right for our people and nation, regardless of what Donald Trump says.”
Murphy first announced his intention to enter New Jersey into the new coalition created by the governors of California, New York, and Washington yesterday afternoon on Twitter:

Murphy has proposed a plan to put New Jersey on a path to 100 percent clean energy by 2050. The president of the national League of Conservation Voters said the Murphy plan “sets the bar for every governor in the United States.”
