Newark — The PATH Labor Council, comprised of the nine labor unions representing the workers of the PATH rail network, have announced their endorsement of Phil Murphy for governor, one week before the primary election.
Labor Council spokesman Joseph Dominiczak, General President of the Railway Independent Transit Union Local 1107, said the organizations endorsed Murphy for his commitment to investing in mass transit alternatives for commuters, as well as his longstanding dedication to respecting organized labor and strong workplace protections.
“Our members want a governor who will work hard to invest in them and our infrastructure, and who will show them the respect they deserve for their work. They know that governor will be Phil Murphy,” said Dominiczak. “With the primary election less than a week away, we are excited to join Phil’s team and to work with him towards victory.”
In addition to the Railway Independent Transit Union, the PATH Labor Council includes: Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Local 497; Sheet Metal, Air, Rail & Transportation Union (SMART) Local 1413; Transport Workers Union Local 2001; International Brotherhood of Teamsters; American Railway and Airway Supervisors Association Local 5075; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 864; Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman; American Train Dispatchers Association.
“The men and women who keep the PATH trains running need leadership in Trenton that works with them and invests in them, and I intend to provide that leadership,” said Murphy. “I am grateful to the PATH Labor Council for their support and endorsement, and look forward to working together to rebuilding trust in our state and getting it moving again.”
